This company provided excellent customer support during my ordering process, and while I was tracking the shipment that was successfully delivered from a German eBay seller to me in America. I purchased a rare vintage bicycle part that I was only able to find in Germany. For some reason, German eBay sellers do not ship to America. Mailboxde.com overcame that obstacle for a very reasonable cost. The process was a bit complex due to international shipping regulations, and some of the online forms were challenging for me to complete. I really wish this was explained on the website. would have saved me 2 weeks of totally unhelpful autogenerated back and forths over email and an all nighter of 8 international phone calls as I desperately tried to upload documents they would deem official enough. a letter is unacceptable. A Word document is unacceptable. if it doesnt have a Tax ID and business logo and verifiable retail price it is unacceptable. and convince them to mail the consolidated shipment I had already paid for. I was basically told my shipment would be abandoned before they could mail a gift to me inside the shipment that did not have a commercial invoice from EBay Amazon etc or a tax IDd business. Really disappointing and infuriating. In the end I had to have my consolidated shipment of vinyl records mailed to a friend of mine in Germany so he could mail it to me like any normal human being is able to. What is the point of a mail forwarding business that will not forward your mail. Why is my friend able to mail this package to me without any difficulties but a business whose entire purpose is mailing stuff cant figure it out.“ Dan

Dear Dan,

Thank you for your detailed feedback. We can forward gifts and private shipments, but only if they meet customs rules: a gift must be given completely free of charge, and a private sale (when the recipient pays the sender, even between friends) must be treated as a normal purchase with proper documentation (proof of value, seller details, etc.).

As your authorised customs declarant, we cannot simply state that a shipment is a gift. We need evidence - a simple letter or declaration from the original sender. The sender can attach this signed declaration directly to the package.

As a regulated forwarding company, we must be able to show these documents to customs authorities even years later, otherwise we are not legally allowed to export the item as declared.

We understand this is frustrating when expectations are different and we will work on explaining these requirements more clearly on our website (see our updated FAQ: https://www.mailboxde.com/faq.html#h18sizofgi71t0yf1r1sf7upn1wea2h4).

„I have been a Mailboxde customer since before COVID, so for over six years now. I can honestly say that Mailboxde is my favorite service, out of ALL the services I use, both in real life and online. Not only does Mailboxde allow me to get items I would not be able to where I live (and often cheaper, too!), but they CONSISTENTLY show that they care about the customer. Things usually go perfectly, and on the rare occasion they do not, the team is incredibly efficient at solving the issue. Here are just a few examples: 1) I once ordered a computer case that was delivered to the warehouse but got lost due to a senders error (missing documentation on the package). After I contacted them, the team immediately found the package, suggested the best way to ship it given its fragile contents, AND applied a FRAGILE sticker, all by themselves and for free. Thank you, Jan, for taking such great care of my package and representing Mailboxde so wonderfully! 2) I had to process a few returns, which required the team to open my consolidated packages to forward the specific items to DHL Express. Even though this was a non-standard request, they handled it without a problem. Thank you, Lucie, for managing my return shipments and for such fantastic service! 3) Every consolidated shipment I have ever received has always been packed with more than enough protection. 4) Consolidations almost always happen the same day I request them, and the package is underway to me by the next day. „AVOID AT ALL COSTS because too high risk. Incompetent and unprofessional. They only have 2 jobs - receive parcels and communication. FAILURE at both. You will not believe my SHOCKING STORY. I attempt shipping my packages, but half are missing so I inquire. JAN ULRICH responds `I have some bad news for you. 11 ... have been returned through our fault, and we deeply apologize`. Two weeks later Im looking at my remaining packages - ANOTHER TEN PACKAGES HAVE DISAPPEARED. And a similar response: `I would like to apologize for returning (them) back to the senders.` Unfortunately, seller refund is no longer feasible. I politely asked for a balanced solution and was ghosted by Jan and Ondrej. First time they lost my ten packages. This is the message from Jan Ulrich: `Yes, I am back in the office and unfortunately, I have some bad news for you. 11 (packages) have been returned through our fault, and we deeply apologize for this. Can you ask your senders to resend them? We will charge you zero processing fee for them.` Two weeks later it happens again - ten more lost. This is the message from an employee - `I would like to apologize for returning the (packages) back to the senders. It`s my fault, unfortunately I didn`t notice the note that you wanted to keep (them)... The senders will refund your money for the goods. I am really sorry for the complications.` I send this response `Unfortunately, since these were Ebay I have no recourse. Even if the sellers wanted to refund they are unable - on Ebay the refund feature is deactivated after short time. Ive lost 200 plus Euros which is very low for 20ish lost packages. I checked the situation. First, I should mention that every shipment or letter 10 days before the expiration of the maximum period set by the system (70 days), according to our conditions, the customer is notified via e-mail before they are returned.

On January 25, 2023, you wrote to us that you would need to store your letters for 4-6 months.

We agreed to 3-4 months (the offered 4-month period ended on 5/24/2023) for the oldest letters. In the meantime, you received messages from us that we would return your letters in 10 days, to which you did not respond. This return system is set automatically.

On April 8, 2023, you wrote to us that you needed to extend the shipments again until the end of May 2023.

At the end of May 2023, the first letters were returned. And on May 31, 2023, you wrote to us that you wanted to send these letters, but you have not yet requested that they be combined or prepared for dispatch.

Yes, it's problematic that we didn't wait a few hours or days. My colleagues apologized to you, we offered compensation in the amount of not billing for our work and no fees. You have claimed from us all additional costs incurred by you in the amount of EUR 86.93. I am willing to pay this first damage. Send me your bank account number.

On June 21, 2023, another 4 letters from March 2023 were returned based on their non-confirmation. A month later you also demanded their full compensation in the amount of the purchase price.

Eight months later, in February 2024, we asked whether you could confirm your letters. Did you receive our message, please? Unfortunately, we have not received an answer.

I'm sorry, we are unable to offer these exceptional storage periods beyond our terms, as we don't have the system set up for this. Our goal is to find an amicable solution, it is not our goal to harm you. We are not perfect. But we recognize that you must have felt like an unprofessionally served customer when we promised you an exception via e-mail. I apologize for that.

If you have a trip through Germany, or I will have a trip through Vancouver in the future, and it will help to improve our mutual relations, I would like to invite you to lunch.

Your shipment contained a type of battery prohibited for air transport. You have undertaken not to hand over such a shipment for transport. Since the carrier apparently discovered this error on an X-ray, he returned the shipment and does not refund postage in these cases. „To tell the truth, I have never tried other forwarding services, only this one but I am really satisfied with Mailboxde. Prices are correct and the service they provide absolutely amazing. There were some situations when sender did not write my personal ID on the box. I sent them a mail with tracking number, and they always found my package in hours and paired to my account. I always use the package consolidation, which totally worth its annual fee. From three packages its already cheaper than forwarding them one by one. They pretty quickly combine my packages and from the request to my house in Hungary it usually takes only 3-4 business days. This must be the best mail/package forwarding company from Germany to Europe. As long as the prices stay reasonable I highly recommend this service to anybody ordering from german ebay, amazon or any other webshop.“ Miklós Papp

„Horrendous!! When setting up my account I mistakenly put wrong data for my name. I did not realize that something was off, as maybe I got funky post address as you sometimes do with forwarding services so I just copied it and ordered a package to mailboxde and waited for it for a couple month to realize they cannot forward my package because the name is not correct and there is nothing that can be done about, period. Not to fix my name, verify my identity, verify that it is my package or at least notify about a problem with my account before I received the package(the mistake in the name can be see right away), none of that. So my really expensive package for which I waited for really long will be sent back across the world. On top of it took me a couple hours calling by phone over span of two days to get my answers back. No help at all, I cannot recommend!“ A
